Seventeen years. Sixty-plus countries. Mostly alone.
Every one of those trips is now editing your Seoul guide —
the kind of local judgment AI can’t give you.
Overplanning isn’t a mistake. It’s love with bad math.
Last week my friend flew in from Mexico — three nights in Seoul. I literally teach people not to overplan this city… and I still caught myself trying to show him everything. Not because I forgot my own advice. Because I cared too much to let him miss anything.
That’s what your packed itinerary really is: care, pointed the wrong way. This guide doesn’t shame it — it aims it. Fewer places. Protected moments. A Seoul you’ll actually remember.
And if your list has zero places instead of forty? Even better — this guide gives you the trusted starting points first. Seoul feels complicated on day one. It isn’t — and you’ll know it by day two.
Real places, with the “why” and the “skip if” — not a list of the same ten landmarks.
Han River at Yeouido, evening
Convenience-store fried chicken and a cold beer on the grass as the lights come on. Calm at night, easy to enjoy alone — my favorite way to end a day. (여의도 한강)
Buam-dong’s hidden valley
Baeksasil Valley — a clean little stream inside the city where salamanders live, with a peaceful hanok library nearby. High on my own list — I’ll only mark it “been” after I’ve visited. (부암동·백사실 계곡)
Jjimjilbang — with or without the hike
Hike first in spring or autumn. In Seoul’s humid summer, skip the mountain and go straight to the sauna. Either way, the deep sweat is the most Korean reset there is. (북한산 + 한증막)
This isn’t about my travels — it’s about yours.
After 17 years of travel, I’ve noticed every traveler moves in one of a few modes. None is better — but planning for the wrong one ruins good trips.

Hi, I’m Ixchel.
I’m Korean and Seoul-based. Over the last 17 years, I’ve traveled to 60+ countries, much of it solo. I know the feeling of landing somewhere new and not knowing where to begin. Ixchel Travel is the guide I wish I could hand every friend flying in: honest, calm, and made for doing it your own way. Every one of those trips is now editing your Seoul guide.

Yes. It’s how I earn your trust before asking for anything else.
I’ve never traveled solo. Is this for me?
Especially for you. Half the guide exists because of my own first solo trip — the fear included.
Why should I trust your picks?
Because I’ve been the outsider in 60+ countries. I know which advice survives contact with a real, tired, hungry traveler.
